Clinics

Diabetes
Dr Deery, Dr Frisby, and Practice Nursing Sisters Kate Stockton and Chris Northern run the diabetic clinics on Tuesday mornings and some Tuesday afternoons. Regular follow up for diabetics is vitally important and we encourage all our diabetic patients to attend either our clinic or the hospital diabetic clinic, or both.

Asthma
Sue Deery runs our asthma clinic for all ages. Regular review of asthma medication is important. We have spirometry equipment and Kate Stockton also reviews patients with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) - the modern name for emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Cervical Smears
Frances Price, Kate Stockton and Catherine Robinson run smear clinics througout the week but you may also book with your own doctor for your smear if you prefer. We encourage all women aged 25 to 49 to have regular 3 yearly smear tests and women aged 50 to 64 to have 5 yearly smear tests.

Hormone Replacement Therapy
Frances Price will see women on HRT for follow up and regular checks of blood pressure, etc. Again, alternatively, you may see your own doctor.

Contraception
All the doctors offer contraceptive advice. In addition Dr Lofts fits contraceptive coils. Again Frances Price will give contraceptive advice and follow up for women on oral contraception, and all the nurses give the Depo Provera injections.

For any woman requiring emergency contraception our 'Book on the Day' appointment system should provide an appropriate appointment. However, if you need an appointment and only emergency appointments are left for that day, please say that it is an 'Emergency Contraception' appointment that you need and you will be fitted in.

Child Immunisations
Sue Deery is our expert in this very important and increasingly complex area. She does all the baby and childhood injections and is available for advice if you have questions about your child's immunisations.

Travel Vaccinations
All our Practice Nurses give travel vaccine advice and we use a computerised system that gives the most up to date advice for different countries. Again, Sue Deery has special expertise in this area.
We are an approved Yellow Fever Centre.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
These clinics are for people who have angina or who have had a heart attack or are known to have CHD. Frances Price runs these clinics giving advice on lifestyle changes, cholesterol, etc.

Health Awareness Clinic
The aim of this clinic is to promote individuals to become more aware of their own Health and Wellbeing. Within this clinic we can do Cholesterol Testing, Height and Weight checks, Blood Pressure checks and advice and leaflets no Smoking Cessation Clinics are run weekly, usually on a Thursday afternoon, and an appointment takes about 20 minutes. This clinic is run by Kathy Steadman one of our Healthcare Assistants.

Smoking Cessation
Jeanette Quanstrom, one of our Healthcare Assistants, runs a Smoking Cessation Clinic on a Thursday afternoon. You can book yourself in without referral from your doctor.

Minor Surgery Clinic
This clinic takes place on alternate Thursday afternoons and is run by Dr Jones. Your Doctor will refer you to this clinic if he or she thinks that you have something for removal that does not require a Hospital visit.

Ante-Natal Clinic
Maternity care is shared between the doctors and Tracy Gardner, our Community Midwife whose clinics are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons between 1pm and 4pm.

The Midwife’s and Health Team's role is dedicated to providing safe, flexible, quality care during pregnancy, childbirth and in the immediate post-natal period.

Normally, you would make an appointment with your own Doctor when you are first pregnant and he or she will refer you to the Hospital Consultant and to the Midwife. The Maternity Team assesses whether you need to be seen by medical staff at the Hospital during your pregnancy, and you will be given appointments for Ultrasound scans and seen either at the Hospital Clinic or here at the Surgery throughout pregnancy for routine checks.

After you have had your baby, Tracy and the other midwives will visit you at home until your baby is 10 days old and then one of our Health Visitors will be your point of contact for advice about your baby. Between six and twelve weeks after having your baby you should book an appointment with your Doctor for a post-natal check for you and a 'six week' check for your baby.

Visiting Professional Staff
Our surgery is used by a private physiotherapist and by a private acupuncturist, whose appointments can be booked without referral by the doctors.
